OBOW Light Travel Forum > Bihn "French" LAbel
Tom Bihn labels are entertaining.
Currently, he has Chinese charachters that say "Made in the USA." When asked, Tom said he was tired of seeing "Made in China" written in English on everything so he did his own version of "Made in the USA" both in English and Chinese.
As for the French saying, yes, it's true. It dates back to 2004 and it was written along with the care instructions in French.

I read about the label and according to the company, the label was supposed to refer to Tom. He said his employees that it would be a funny little inside joke about Tom who is president of the company. Not sure if that was true or just trying to soothe ruffled feathers afterwards. Either way, I'll still keep purchasing their bags.

i have bihn stuff and will presumably continue to buy bihn stuff. but it has nothing to do with politics, only the bag itself.
for anyone who was bothered back them, it had more to with fact that bihn didn't simply say i don't like bush, because he does in fact do 'entertaining' things with his labels.
any other company and a employee does this, what do you think would happen to the employee? if it was truly done without mgt approval.

Well, maybe Tom Bihn has a sense of humor... Some of the posters on the flyertalk thread certainly don't.

Vito, as you say, the labels are kind of old news.
They never bothered me. When I heard of them, I found it kind of humorous.
Bihn isn't a real big company, and I think they were probably even smaller back then. I doubt they meant to be really political, just funny. I don't think they had had learned yet how easily some people are offended.
As an example, the small company I work for used to offer a "Christmas Discount", never really thinking about it. We learned that it needs to be called a "Holiday Discount".
Bihn is a good company to deal with. Good customer service. Products are well made. Some people like their designs, I'm sure some people don't. It's up to you whether you want to do business with them. I've done so about 4 times, and never had any problems.

I was astonished when I ordered something that turned out to be on backorder and received a voicemail from Tom Bihn himself letting me know. I think they must be very small. They are a good company with excellent products--made in USA--and I don't really care about their politics. If I need something from them, I will buy it.

It seems this may be old news but it is new to me. I must say I was a bit surprised by this as well; I had thought more of Tom Bihn and his company. I have a few of their products but I will give serious thought re. any future purchases.
