OBOW Light Travel Forum > What "smaller" bag fits under a plane seat?
The trouble with underseat is that there is no standard size. Ailse seats often have a support or electronics box in the way too. Small laptop/messenger bags usually fit and I think my Western Flyer would usually fit. But because you never know what you will be dealing with and because there's usually no way to put two bags under the seats it's a risk to rely on it. Some stewardesses are also more picky than others about how far the bag can protrude from the seat. My point was that if you have a smaller carryon you might be able to get it under the seat in the event that the overheads are full.
You could try the L.L. Bean Adventure Duffle in the smallest size. Even when fully stuffed this bag has fit under the seat in every airplane I've been it. It looks really small but it can hold a ton and since it is LL Bean you can be assured it will last forever.

In one of the posts here Brad commented that as more people carryon and overhead space disappears, we might all consider carrying a smaller bag that might fit under the seat. My question is, what size would a bag have to be to allow us to feel good about it fitting down there? Which bags do you use, when you want it to fit under an airplane seat? What brands, which models? Does an Airboss fit? I love my MEI Executive Overnighter, but I don't believe it would fit under a seat, even if I use the outside compression straps.
