OBOW Light Travel Forum > Space Bags?

I'm new to this site, and new to one bag travel. I have a RedOxx Air Boss on order, and i'm really looking forward to using it on my next trip. I have been checking my local stores for some packing cubes, and iran across these at the local Bed, Bath and Beyond https://www.spacebagtogo.com/Index.dtm.

Does anybody have any experience with these?

They look familiar to this product from Rick Steves page http://travelstore.ricksteves.com/catalog/index.cfm?fuseaction=product&theParentId=122&id=160

Thanks

I used these on my trip home from Italy a few years ago. I think it might be tricky to use them on the way there because of wrinkles but they were useful on the way home to create more room for souvenirs and keeping my dirty laundry separate. My only concern was that I think I only used them once because they seemed to get holes in them fairly easily. Maybe I was just too rough with them though.

I've got an Eagle Creek compression bag I use for cold weather trips with my Air Boss. It's really good at shrinking bulky items like fleece and sweaters. I don't use it for warm weather, since the minimal clothing I pack then doesn't compress all that much.

I've been using the compression bags, mostly Eagle Creek because of their quality, for years. I like them for the things that are ok to wrinkle (e.g. under garments, gym clothes, pjs) or if I am traveling more casually and have access to an iron. I've been able to travel on 2 day trips using my briefcase and compression bags. I especially like using them to separate my dirty laundry from my clean clothes on my return trip.

Be careful though in using compression bags if you are one-bagging. You could increase the weight of your bag if you add more stuff because the compression bags give you more space. I speak from experience!

I have the EC compression bags, too. They are sturdy. You won't puncture them easily. It is very important not too overload them. The seal is not perfect anyway. They are good for pullovers or anything that really can be compressed, like down jackets. For trousers and shirts it is not worth using them, for the reasons outlined by the other posters. I also mostly use it for compressing dirty laundry on the way bag. However, I only use them if I do have a real space problem.

One thing that they do well is to give structure to an otherwise wobbly soft bag. They can also be used very nicely to protect a laptop in a soft bag.

the spacebags that one uses a vaccuum cleaner to suck the air out of, do have a better seal. But they are of thinner material and are easily punctured. The other problem is that you might not have a vacuum cleaner at the destination.

If you want to transport a lot of clothing from A to B and leave it at B, as in taking stuff from the one residence to another, then get the spacebags.
