OBOW Light Travel Forum > Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard Suggestions

I have a Verbatim folding wireless bluetooth keyboard that I'm not very fond of. I would like to find something similar tin size and weight of the Apple Wireless keyboard, but that can be used on Android and doesn't need a Mac for set up.

I would consider something even smaller or lighter but not one of the mini ones that are only useable with thumbs.

Suggestions?

I have this one and it works well for my iPad. I haven't tried pairing it with my iPhone but doubt there would be any problems in doing so. It has a switch to change between iOS and Android devices.

Thanks, that one looks great. The reviews say it does work with the Nexus 7. And it's really lightweight especially if I leave the case/stand at home.

Perhaps the AWK DOES work on other systems; it might be worth trying one out. The link is Bluetooth, which is a fairly generic system. I do have the AWK, very sleek unit, and the key spacing is the regulation 19 mm.

I also just acquired a combination case/stand, the Incase Origami:

though I am not quite sure if the spacing would properly hold the Nexus 7.

The Origami has an interior plastic bar, specifically designed to hold the tubular battery compartment of the Apple Wireless Keyboard during storage. When the unit is reversed to work as a stand, the iPad rests onto the bar's pair of clips, whose outside width is 8.25", interior separation 5.25". The 7.81" wide Nexus 7 or the the 7.87" wide iPad Mini should fit adequately, though I suspect that Incase might narrow that for future versions to better fit the iPad Mini. Anyway, save for the absence of a track pad, the combination of the AWK and the Origami gives one a unit that becomes a de facto MacAir 9.7, at least if one has table or desk space to fit the combination.

Of course, for someone who regularly needs a keyboard, they would be better off with the MacAir 11. On the other hand, during travel in the cramped quarters of the Economy section, a tablet fits much better. Always...choices.

I don't need a stand, I need a keyboard. I think the Zagg Flex will work out. My local Target has them and I'm going to go check it out. (I'll but it online where it's a lot cheaper I can get my hands on it in the local store.)

I can even leave the case/stand it comes with at home and take one I have that weighs less and folds flat.

I used to have a folding keyboard but found it really annoying to use even though it was very compact to travel with. Nowadays I use a Logitech Bluetooth solar keyboard (k760).

It says its made for apple devices, but it pairs with my pc and android just fine. You'll have to adjust to the apple keyboard layout.

It looks and feels like the apple mac keyboards. The solar panel works really well as it keeps it charged and you don't have to worry about having batteries for it. It can also save 3 Bluetooth profiles, so I currently have it set up for 2 android devices and a pc.

"I don't need a stand, I need a keyboard."

Actually my suggestion WAS the Apple Wireless Keyboard; mention of the Origami was just an overly long footnote. Apple also has a keyboard that has solar power, but the Logitech seems less expensive. The only downside to a non-folding keyboard is that they are longer, but most should still fit into any bag with a depth or length of 12 inches, i.e., Tom Bihn Medium Cafe Bag, Ristretto, etc.

It does look as though the Zagg Flex has a key "pitch" somewhat less than the standard 19 mm. My wife, for example, has a Zagg cover/keyboard for her iPad, works fine for her, as her fingers are of course smaller than mine. Anyway, the issues one possibility versus another are subtle, and their significance will vary one user to another.

I have a new travel case coming for my Nexus 7 that is designed to take not only the tablet but its accessories as well. In the photos of the case, they show an Apple Wireless keyboard fitting in it.

The company has never been reviewed here so they're sening one for review. I'll reveal the company with the review.

BTW--this same company makes cases for all size tablets and notebooks with the design of the cases being the same. Only the sizes are different.

All of their products are Made in the USA.

I'm leaning towards the Zagg Flex just because it is a little shorter and will fit easier into my day bag. I'm used to using a netbook computer and I believe the keyboard is about the same size.
