OBOW Light Travel Forum > Original Taxi Wallet

I use an Eagle Creek Money Belt for the bulk of my money, credit cards, etc., while traveling abroad.

Additionally, I now use the Original Taxi Wallet to carry my daily spending money. It is small enough to fit in my front pocket, has 2 slots for different types of currency, and, has a change pocket for foreign coins, too.

Anyone else here had success with the Original Taxi Wallet as well?

The Taxi Wallet has become my usual travel wallet, particularly any trip out of my home state. Most of what my usual wallet contains is irrelevant away from home. Once the Taxi Wallet is folded, I find that the usual hotel keycard fits nicely into the crevice on the straight edge.

That second post is a "second the motion" from myself!

I just looked at mine, which still has 31.43 Euros left inside, plus a hotel keycard stowed as mentioned above. An important feature of the design is that EXPANDABLE OUTSIDE POCKET with snap closure, very useful for the COINS used in Europe for not just small amounts but also 1 and 2 Euro coins. By contrast while in the US these days the need for metal coins is much less and in fact I rarely even carry any sort of coin container. Again, RECOMMENDED.

I use my Taxi wallet all the time. I'm a woman and I love that I can put it in my pocket and not have to carry a purse all the time (assuming my pants or has a pocket - but that's another issue). It motivated me to pare down my credit card collection to the minimum I need on a daily basis. I like that the paper money section is divided into two parts. If I'm traveling domestically I can put receipts in one part and currency in the other. If traveling internationally, I can put my dollars in one and other money in the second part.

The only issue I have with my Taxi wallet is that over the year I've been using it, it has become quite scuffed and scratched. However, the stitching and snaps are holding up well despite my over-stuffing of it.

I got mine for a little less on overstock.com. I don't know if they still carry it.

These come in various colors, so I have toyed with getting one for my wife in RED. She almost lost a very small wallet the other day, had it found, so I think that a bright color for her would be not only cute, but...practical!

Okay, Onebaggers, I see that the Original Taxi Wallet is pretty popular with our readers. Did you know that their slogan is : One World, One Wallet..?

I chatted with them today and have two pieces of news:

1) They are sending me one for a full review.

2) They are offering everyone here a special deal. If you shop their web store http://www.aliciaklein.com and use the coupon code "ONEWORLD" to purchase a new Taxi Wallet, you'll get 25% off the retail price. Only one coupon per customer and for only one wallet. The offer expires February 28, 2013.

If you want to wait for the review, that's fine. I'll get one done with enough time left to take advantage of the discount.

Always liked the look of the taxi wallet and this post (and the discount) had me decided. I have ordered a red one - liked the brick colour very much but red is my usual colour for small things.

Alas in a credit card driven world, "The Original Taxi Wallet" from Alicia Klein may NOT be the best choice.

Compared to my Osgood Marley version of this sort of wallet, their #1642 "Belt Wallet," the otherwise attractive "Persimmon" wallet we just received from Alicia Klein falls short, half an inch short in fact, in its folded dimension, which makes the new arrival not as good as my OM version for carrying essentials such as a standard drivers' license or credit cards, particularly because where the wallet folds, the smaller AK version lacks the transverse seam.

Also, the smaller dimension means that the snap on the AK version has to go onto an auxiliary flap, rather than just outboard of where a credit card or license would fit. The coin pocket on the AK version similarly is a bit smaller than the OM version. Finally, the unfolded edge of the OM Belt Wallet is much rounder than the AK version, probably making for a more comfortable carry, with the curved edge down.

My wife advises that she WILL be keeping the Alicia Klein Original Taxi Wallet she has just received, also the cute little box in which it comes. BUT, otherwise anyone ordering this sort of wallet should be aware of the differences, Cost absent that discount is virtually the same:

Remember, in the "onebag" world, bigger is not always better. For many, that's a hard pill to swallow or to even accept.

For me, a smaller wallet would be preferred as it won't take up as much room in my pocket. That means it would be less bulky and thus less prone to attract attention from a thief.

That's odd. I have never had any problems with my credit cards, Driver's License, U.S. Passport Card, etc., fitting into my Original Taxi Wallet. They all fit perfectly. I especially like the slot inside the coin purse section because that's where I keep my cards---seperate from my coins.

The extra half-inch of the Osgood Marley Belt Wallet doesn't really affect its pocketability, but it does make it easier to carry 4-6 credit cards (including drivers' license) and the like. My wife likes her stylish new Alicia Klein Original Taxi Wallet, and has shown me it packed as she would use it on an excursion. Anyway, two variants of the same idea, price is about the same, but the basic concept, wallet in a FRONT POCKET makes so much SECURITY SENSE for out of area travel, as well as not having to sit on a lumpy wallet during a long flight!

Received a red one in the canyon leather and it is lovely. It won't hold a lot of credit type cards but certainly enough when travelling and do not need everything I might carry at home. Very nice quality.
