Does anyone have experience with travel towels and hair conditioner? Most descriptions about travel towels say not to use fabric softener as this will ruin the towel. So will hair conditioner also ruin these types of towels? Thanks for any input.
I just got a couple of new travel towels in for review. (I'm hoping to have the review up within a week).
On both, the washing instruction say "Sunscreens, Lotions and Deodorants can affect the performance of the towel and in some cases cause odor." They suggest simply washing in hot water without bleach.
My Eagle Creek Microfiber towels says: Wash in warm water. No bleach. No fabric softener. Line dry.
Do you mean leave-in conditioner or the type you put on then rinse off? I have used a rinse off conditioner and a leave-in, then wrapped my hair in the travel towel, I have two different sorts of towel, neither has ever been affected by hair products, including the hair dye that leaches out of my hair onto the towels, it washes out of my towels very well. I bought one at the Body Shop and the other came from Rick Steves online. I never use fabric softener.
It is the only towel I have used for the past few years, even at home. Cuts down on washer loads. When it dries out, it's really really stiff. Wet it back and it's nice and soft again. It does not usually absorb odors or stains that can't be rinsed and rung out of it.
There are two or three sizes. I prefer the small size to wash with and dry with. When drying, once it fills with water, ring it out and dry off some more. The small size take minimal space in luggage and I get to always use a familiar towel at hotels. I usually find them at Pep Boys or maybe the grocery store in the automotive section.
On a similar note: I see that there are at least two types of travel towels: microfiber and viscose. Any preferences for one over the other? I am waiting to purchase one dependent on YOUR recommendations. Thanks!
I prefer microfibre for a towel but viscose for a dish mat or drying cars. Frank reviewed a travel towel a few months ago in the blog section. I have that one and one by Innate Gear (from MEC in Canada) and like them both.
