OBOW Light Travel Forum > Arrival time at airport before you board?

Hi all,

So if you are going with a carry-on only, and you know it's packed right and will cause no issues, how long do you give yourself between the takeoff time and when you get to the airport? For a domestic flight I would assume less time... I'm not including parking and whatnot, just from when you hit the doors to the airport to when the flight is scheduled to leave. Does it matter on time of day? Airport?

My mom is going through DIA in early June and will be taking a bus down there... her flight is at noon... there is a bus that gets there at 9:50a and then that same bus will not arrive again until 10:50. That would still be within the "45 minute window" requirements, what are your thoughts on whether it is too close?

How quick do they move and what is the average security line at that time of day, for that airport? Do they have any status to get through a longer security line? All of the questions you asked are valid factors.

If I was dealing with people who move a bit slower, the 9:50 am arrival would be the less stressful option. Especially if they need to get food/water or a bio break before boarding. You can check for the gate that morning and also check http://www.flydenver.com/ and http://www.ifly.com/denver-international-airport/wait-times for estimated security time.

I'm sure many one baggers on this board could make the 45 minute window. These are also probably people who will be prepped for the security and have checked the gate layouts, in addition to power walking to the gate.

I would opt for the 9.50 bus.
Even though I have carry on only, have checked in online and printed up my boarding pass, I travel under the cloud of Sod's Law...........if something is going to happen to delay me it will be when I'm trying to get to the airport. I always give myself a minimum of 2 hours to be AT the airport, security lines at Toronto and Heathrow have, at times, been horrendous, it's security that I allow time for.
Better to be safe than sorry.

I have learned the hard way.......when you cut it too close, something is bound to go wrong. I like to give extra time due to the unforeseen. If everything runs smoothly, I have time to do work, get a cup of coffee, explore the airport, etc. If not, I've allowed it into my arrival time so I don't miss my plane.

As suggested, plan on the 9:50 arrival.

Thanks guys, guess that we'll be doing the earlier bus time! I think if it was me I'd probably try for the later one, but she's older, walks slower, enjoys taking her time and like Paula said, if something went wrong, it would be harder on her so good thoughts, thanks!
