OBOW Light Travel Forum > Skechers GOWalk.....my new ultralight shoes

http://www.skechers.com/style/13569/skechers-gowalk-baby/bkw#Color=BKW

We sometimes talk about footwear on here, walking shoes in particular, I found these while browsing shoe sites one day, I bought the black & white ones through Sears Canada (they are also at softmoc.ca but don't have all the colours that Skechers sells).
To start with, they have to be the lightest shoes I've ever worn (excepting a pair of beach flip flops that is). I usually wear sneakers whilst in transit but quite honestly, I could pack these (and stuff items inside), my alternate pair of shoes would certainly be heavier.
The shoes come with white laces, Skechers also provide a black pair with the shoes.
They put my previous walking shoes to shame (in comparison, honking, heavyweight clod-hoppers), these are SOoooooo comfortable and first impression was that my feet were on a firm sponge. After walking around for a while I finally understood the description given for these shoes..............

>>>Innovative placement allows the GOimpulse sensors to move together and independently
Promotes a natural stride
360 Degree Responsive Flexibility - SKECHERS GOwalk flexes and twists
Resalyte™ Midsole - Proprietary lightweight midsole compound provides impact absorption<<<

Yep, definitely what they said!
They will certainly help when I'm walking on cobbled streets, uneven surfaces, pebble beaches and anything else old European / British places can throw at me.
They look easy to clean, a damp sponge should do the job.
My only danger now is that I'll be tempted to buy other colours OR start trying the GOWalk slip on style....eek!!

I live near a SKECHERS factory store. I can't wait to try these on! Thanks for the tip!

Cassie, you lucky thing!
Although, having gone through the whole Skechers web site, perhaps it's a good thing I don't live near one!
I've just picked out these, and again, being so lightweight, carry-on will be even more of a doddle, heck, I could even stuff them in my jacket pocket.

I do have these already, great summer slide, comfy and feels a bit dressy having a heel..........

and of course, they weigh next to nothing

Well.... Now I may have to make that shopping trip a priority!

Very nice! I must see if I can find a store that carries them on next trip to Seattle. I have ordered a pair of the SoftStars. Not sure about them - will have to see them to decide.

Here's the flat:

What kind of socks do you wear with these??
March 15, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterEileen
Ah, ballet flat style. I wouldn't wear socks with those, but if I had to? I would either wear my thin Tilley ankle socks or those pantyhose foot protector things that go round your foot and toes but are hidden under the upper, so it looks like you still have bare feet.
I am awaiting my next purchase of Skecher shoes......

I found out that skechers.com does not ship to Canada, so I'm buying mine from shoebuy.com.
Last year I remember seeing a Skechers shop in Covent Garden, London......I'll be over there in September and coincidentally, in that area......what a happy thought! :-)

Skechers does offer up some cute, casual, COMFORTABLE sneaker options. I picked up a cute pair of black, low-profile sneakers several years ago at one of their outlet stores (in the Franklin Mills Mall, for those near PHL) that were GREAT for travel. Easy on/off at the airport, cute with jeans or yoga pants and comfortable enough for a day spent walking around. Sadly, I had to toss 'em after I wore them to pieces!

Eileen, for the flats you mentioned you might want to try these socks:

I have a few pair in black that I wear with skimmer-style sneakers, ballet flats and TOMS. I also picked up a few pair in a similar style from Journeys (not wool, though). I prefer the wool because they keep your feet (and the shoes) fresh but the little cheapies that can be had (I've found them at Walgreens and CVS, too) do the job, too.

Great little sock, thank you. The cheap ones aren't soft and absorb the sweat. The merino wool ones are great!!

Nike free is a Skecher alternative. The sole is protected where the foot strikes, so it won't wear out as fast. Low profile, not the typical running shoe: http://www.zappos.com/nike-free-run-3-black-wolf-grey-reflective-silver~1?ef_id=UQkuPgAAGwSuYCLb:20130325232407:s

After reading this thread, I considered the men's version of the GOWalk, but the lace-up style doesn't seem to be available in all black - I didn't like the combination of black upper and white sole - and slip-ons tend to slip off my feet.

However, I've ordered the On the GO Lux, with black sole and black suede upper, 7.5 ounces in size 9 (but I wear size 12.5). For anyone considering this shoe, it's $40 at shoebuy.com.

Well, I finely made the the 29 mile trip to the Skechers Factory Store. They were having a "Buy one, get 50% off another" sale, which seems to be the permanent sale price there. I tried on a bunch of things that I liked. These two were really comfortable.....

But, I was so disappointed that they didn't have the Go Walk's at all. I finally noticed a new door way, that said Fitness across the top. Curious, I went in and found myself in a whole room of Go Walk shoes. I piked out these two...

They are so comfortable, it's like wearing slippers!
Thanks for the tip, Paula Bag Lass!

Nice, Cassie! :-) I wish I could find a sale like that, lucky you.

I'm chomping at the bit to be able to wear my tone ups outside of the house......it's STILL snowing here!!
