OBOW Light Travel Forum > Patagonia MLC vs Timbuk2 Wingman

Looking at both of these. Same price. Does anyone have experience with both? Recommendations?

I checked out the Wingman. After fooling around with the "shoe" compartment, I prefer one big compartment with dimensions that don't change according to what is packed in the secondary compartment. The bag has solid construction and a slimmer profile - you won't be bumping it into people when you turn around on the bus. The zipper has an enormous floppy weather flap that might work in a downpour, but does a poor job of laying flat. It definitely shows its messenger bag roots - more sportif appearance relative to the MLC.

You might want to try Eagle Creek Digi Hauler. It is a travel pack very similar to the Wingman but costs $120. It weighs less than 2 pounds, has compression straps, hide away backpack straps including the waist strap and a lockable computer pocket on the outside. It has another pocket on the front of the bag and a smaller pocket good for boarding pass, keys or water bottle. There is even an inside zipper pocket for small items. Check out the excellent video description on eagle creeks website.
