Since the advent of the TSA carry-on liquid restrictions, having a bottle of water available for a flight has meant either buying a $2.00+ bottle of water in an airport shop, or trying to fill an empty bottle in a bathroom or at a water fountain, neither of which is a great option, between the extra cost, or water on your shoes. Actually, per today's WALL STREET JOURNAL, 3/25/2013, p. B1, an increasingly available option would be an Elkay EZH20 or similar model from other vendors, cost $700 plus, but apparently increasingly popular at colleges, and in particular by report, 15 airports including O'Hare and La Guardia. These will fill a 16-17 oz. bottle in 5 to 7 seconds, a bit longer for chilled water, the actual spout being non-aerated, controlled by a photoelectric cell and SEPARATE from where one drinks directly. Colleges have reported a 90% drop in the sale of bottled water, a modest environmental victory.
Anyway, not the greatest advance in travel, but useful regardless, and something to look for by many, such as my wife, who takes a bottle of water almost everywhere with her. Has anyone come across or used one these yet?
I used one in the Charlotte airport (CLT) recently. It worked very well, even refilling a disposable bottle with no spillage. Very precise delivery mechanism. If I recall correctly it appeared to be the EZ Cooler Combo.
These are all over Colorado - I also used some at the ATL airport. Easy, quick, fit water bottles well - what's not to like? I hope more and more places will install them!
