I just got back from a week-long trip to Texas (I live in the US, so this was a domestic trip for me). I took just one bag (the Red Oxx Air Boss) and packed light -- I packed just 2 shirts and 1 skirt, and wore a pair of pants and a shirt. I minimized all my other gear as much as possible without buying a lot of extra things. The place I was staying had a washer and dryer, so I did laundry twice.
Many of you have traveled for longer, and have packed lighter, than I did, so this might not seem like a huge accomplishment, but for me it was. My bag weighed in at 19 pounds, in part because the skirt I packed was denim, and I took an extra pair of shoes I didn't need, but also because I'm new at this! I almost always travel carry-on only, but have always taken two bags and stuffed them as full as possible.
This was a great experience. I had a good idea of how much easier the actual travel would be with one bag, but I didn't anticipate how much easier packing (both to leave and to come home) would be, and how much of a difference that would make.
Isn't it a lovely feeling though? The first time I travelled light / carry-on, I felt so liberated, it was actually exciting being at airports and on transport, which I usually dislike. The one thing I learned quickly was to list what I should have taken / left behind. I do that on the return journey so that I don't forget, then put the list with my travel accessories, for next time. Once you know what works for you, travelling light improves with each trip.
