.....and if that " trip to Target as part of the routine when they're getting ready for a trip," is preparation for a visit to Paris or the Loire Valley, then the name of the store is pronounced "TARJAY"!!

As far as their carrying any non-wheeled carry-on luggage, despite their listing a very extensive array of items...forget it. One might envision their carrying something like that eBags Weekender Convertible or the Outdoor Products Essential Carryon, whose price fits their market sector...nope.

Most Target stores definitely have a worthwhile travel-size collection.
However, I am astonished at the gigantic WALL of travel-size items offered at 'Bed, Bath & Beyond' I saw recently.
At least 20 linear feet of space, and five feet high. Three times the size of any Target I've been in. Worth a visit ( I'm not a regular and stumbled across that section by accident). An impressive array of tiny brand names in 1-3-3 packaging.

My local Bed, Bath and Beyond doesn't have any of that. All they do is sell a couple of 3-1-1 kits.

My local Bed, Bath & Beyond doesn't have that either. However, my local Target has a full aisle of travel-sized items that is at least that large.

My local Von's, a grocery store, doesn't have a huge selection of travel-sized items, but certainly enough to meet most needs, including shaving cream in a 2.75 oz. size.

Well, we don't have a Bed, Bath and Beyond nor a Target within a hundredmiles. The closest Von's is at least thirty days by camel, but a few of our local stores have "sample" sections ehtat we regularly peruse. You people living in the more civilized areas are lucky beyond your wildest dreams.

Monte: thinking about the difficulty of finding ready-made travel sizes available in some folks' locations,
those little 99cent hand sanitizer bottles (1 to 2 oz sizes) are cheap to acquire, generally have well designed dispenser caps, are durable and very reusable. Refill them with whatever you want to bring along. Scotch tape on an appropriate label if you like. Those little 1-2 oz mouthwash bottles also seem to be available everywhere.

Container Store carries a selection of sturdy mini-ziplock bags, 2x3, 3x5, 4x6 etc. Very durable also. Great for iPhone rain protection as well as carrying travel-sized quantities of whatever you like. Ten cents or so per bag. They stand up to a lot of abuse.

Andrew, We have done that starting with some 3oz glass Listerine bottles. Mostly I take single malt or some other liquor in them. Then we went to Tom's plastic mouthwash bottles. Yesterday I say a preloaded paranoia bag in Shopko with four 3oz empty bottles. I like to use the bottles with max capacity, either 3oz or 100ml. You get more bang for the buck.

The only other liquid I take is a spray bottle of wrinkle remover. Everything else is dry and/or powder. Our paranoia bags are regular quart size slider opening plastic bags, and we take several spares. My prescription meds go in another one, and in a third bag goes coins, keys, pins, buttons, little metal things that seem to never attract attention.

Drugstores such as CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens generally have a greatly expanded section for travel-sized toiletries during the summer roadtrip/travel season in tourist areas. Right now, in Provincetown MA, the 20ft wall that was the travel section is now only 3 wire baskets on the bottom shelf with a jumble of leftovers.

Other places such as the Walgreens by the Orlando Convention Center seem to have a permanent supply of travel-sized items as they see a steady stream of travelers year-round.

I found the suggestion here to buy little ink bottles (for tie dyeing) from an art supply shop, and fill them with product. Much smaller than the size you can find in travel shops, I got 1/2 ounce dropper bottles, and used them for toothpaste, face cream, whatever. Surprising to me how long 1/2 oz of toothpaste lasts!

BackpackingLight.com also has dropper bottles with colored caps.

Sometimes I buy samples off eBay. There's even travel sized cinnamon toothpaste on there. Beauty sample products can be found on eBay as well.

Lette mentions buying 1/2 ounce ink bottles used for tie-dying. Another possibility is to use empty eye drop bottles. (As a contact-lens wearer who sleeps in my contacts, I go through a bottle of eye drops fairly often.) These bottles are quite small: they hold only about a quarter of an ounce.

The Container Store has a really great selection of travel-sized bottles that you can fill up with whatever. A lot of theirs are the Nalgene ones, too, which are quite leakproof.
