OBOW Light Travel Forum > Your favorite luggage tag?

I have looked at luggage tags quite extensively. I really like the one that came with the Travelpro Platinum 5 and the one with my Alu Rimowa Jumbo Multiwheel suitcase.

However, these things are hard to come by as a single item. So today at Target I saw a great deal. They have plastic luggage tags that only reveal your name in a window. To open them completely you must actually untie the tag. They are nicely designed and look sturdy and come in different colors.

The best things however is the price: 2 for $3.98!

For such a nice tag that is great. Of course, one should not give the home address or phone number on the tag but rather only the email and cell phone number or perhaps the destination address.

What is your favorite tag and why?

I'm not a fan of the "dangly" luggage tags...just another thing to get in the way and catch on things.

I got a package of non-padded yellow handle wraps from Magellans:

I've wrapped one around the base of one of the handles on my Air Boss, and another around a hold down strap inside the bag. They're highly visible, but out of the way, and my contact info is not on display.

I saw the version Till described at Target. It took me a second to figure out that you had to unloop to reveal the complete ID. My concern with this style was that the extra work might dissuade someone from bothering to read your tag and routing it back to you.

Scott, I checked out your link. Quite interesting, thanks!

Ash, it's true that at first one wonders what's going on. But it's pretty clear that there must be more than the name. I don't think anybody who actually wants to give the suitcase back will be deterred by the work it takes to undo the tag.

I use a metal pet tag that can be purchased at a pet store. I put my first initial, my last name and my cell phone number. I put it on a split ring (like keys go on). I got this idea from travelite.org in about 2004 and it works like a charm. It won't come off accidentally and it would be very hard to remove on purpose.

Am I the only one with a Winnie the Pooh tag?
I do type up and laminate different tags with destination addresses (usually hotels or relatives) just in case I have to check my bag, (and god forbid it goes off to an exotic place without me), at least there is a tag identifying where I am and length of stay so they can hopefully return it to me in good time.

I bought Winnie on a whim, years ago I bought a new bag just before flying, standing at the baggage carousel at the other end of the flight, I suddenly couldn't remember what the heck it looked like. Winnie was attached to said bag and I spotted him immediately. Breathes sigh of relief and exits baggage hall feeling like a right prawn!
