OBOW Light Travel Forum > Liquids from a Prescription

I thought I heard that when you have a prescription that comes in liquid form, you can carry more than 3 ounce of it when carrying on? How does that work? Do you have to have a doctor's note? I have a medicated shampoo, facewash and lotion. My shampoo have the prescription information on it but is worn down from being soak in the shower so often. Or should I just try to put them in 3 ounce bottles?
Thanks for all your help in advance.

The TSA "are continuing to permit prescription liquid medications and other liquids needed by persons with disabilities and medical conditions."

You definitely re-package to some type of bottle that is marked three ounces or less. Otherwise you may go through a great deal of hassle (given the label condition) or not get them through at all. Even with marked prescription bottles some people carry a written copy of the prescription.

I second what Brad said. Just re-package. You will travel just the lighter and better. And less hassle.

You could try talking to your pharmacist, ask them to repackage the solutions for you into travel size bottles and label them.
My husband has to carry medication on the plane, he has a doctor's note for his diabetic items, plus all the prescription copies to go with his pills.

Sounds like a ton of work. In my personal experience, as long as the bottles aren't too big, they couldn't care less what is in them. You could carry nitro, they wouldn't be the wiser.

I try to put things similar to what was originally in a container when I repackage. For instance, I put hand soap in those tiny hand sanitizer bottles and I put clear Febreze in ROR lens cleaner spray bottles. I've wondered if they ever compare smells or appearance of what's in the bottles to what should be in the bottles. All the containers in my wife's bulging 3-1-1 bag were litmus tested at Heathrow once (this year I think) but that was a pretty quick and painless process. The guy doing the test seemed colossally bored with the whole thing.
