It might be a long-shot, but I'm guessing there's a fair few of us one-baggers based around northern California. I've got a last-year model REI Vagabond pack in like-new condition (just used it for one 2-week trip) – it's the exact same version here, but in the color black/charcoal: http://www.rei.com/product/754680 I have made one modification, however, which is I brought it to a shoe repair shop to shorten the hip belt so it would adjust small enough to fit my 31” waist. There's still plenty of excess strap and should have no problems accommodating a 40”+ waist still.
REI updated the design of the pack this year, but for some reason decided to increase the dimensions so that it's now just over the carry-on limits, as well as bumping the price up by $20 to $119. Personally I'm very happy with this pack in last year's version, but have decided to switch to the Osprey Porter 46, mainly because of its slightly larger internal volume and better compression strap system. On the downside, the Porter 46 doesn't have the internal frame and padded hip straps that the REI Vagabond has. There's a very good comparison of the two packs here: http://boards.bootsnall.com/anyone-have-the-rei-vagabond-20-pack-t36757.html
I'm based out of Sacramento and the SF Bay Area – if anyone is in the vicinity and wants to trade with me, send me a message. Alternatively, if you're interested in the pack but don't have the Porter 46 to trade, I'll sell it for $60.
