OBOW Light Travel Forum > Best travel underwear (men)

Figures that someone would find a lower price! Oh well. See separate note about Packinglight.

As I said in other threads, no skivvies is the best way to go. Maybe an undershirt, maybe.

The Terramar Visa Endurance undershirts appear to be a new addition to what Magellan carries, these in particular having a V-neck, which I prefer most of the time. The cost seems a bit more reasonable than some other options, at $23 each if one buys at least two.

Might anyone have tried these? How do they compare to a cotton undershirt?

The polyester undershirts I recently used in London were all crew neck, but I could have certainly used a pair of V-neck. Two each crew and V-neck, all dark, probably would be the optimal combination.

I've used Terramar boxer briefs and they are very good - never tried the shirts.

I bought 3 of the V neck Magellan's undershirts a couple of months ago. I like them much better than the ExOfficio. The fabric has a feel in between the ExOfficio and cotton. The cut of the V neck is much better than on the ExOfficio IMHO.

I've worn them a couple of times but didn't really exert myself enough to test out the odor control properties. I didn't notice any stink after a normal urban/office type day.

I may order some of the Magellan boxer briefs in the future just to compare to the ExOfficio that I have now.

I purchased the Terramar boxer briefs in the past
from Campmor.com. The quality is good and the prices
are much cheaper than Magellan's.

The Pioneer crew tee shirt ; at Campmor is $17.99.

Campmor is where my Terramars have come from, too.

I have switched to pure Merino wool boxers for travel and find them to be the best

I use Icebreaker Merino wool underwear.

To anyone in Australia, David Jones are having a 30% off sale at the moment, which includes Icebreaker undergarments. Their underwear is normally $50 and you can get them for just over $30. This is an absolute bargain for us. I just bought 4 pairs! :)

During my recent trip to London, I had equal numbers of the Ex Officio nylon mesh underwear and similarly styled Lands End cotton underwear. Once they were on, I noted no difference that I recall. The Ex Officio are a bit lighter, and pack a bit better. For a trip up to four days, when one is not going to launder anything, it doesn't make any difference. But, for anything longer than that, where bathroom sink laundering will be the tactic, the advantage of the Ex Officio becomes very obvious.

Alan, I have several coolmax undershirts from the coolclothingusa site. They are very comfortable, and the company is reliable and ships fast. The one thing to remember is to make sure that you do press them hard rolled in to a towel after sink washing, otherwise they will take at least 6 hours to hang dry. Happy travels. Jose.

What about women's underwear? Whats is the best women's underweare ?
October 3, 2010 | Unregistered Commentermary
"Whats is the best women's (travel) underwear?"

Most men wear COTTON underwear, not great for travel, because it takes a long time to dry, when hand-washed. However, the Ex Officio NYLON mesh version obviates that problem. By contrast, much if not most of women's underwear is nylon-based, and already travels and hand washes well, due to the fabric, not to mention being smaller in size, coverage, etc. So, I'd think that the need for women to buy specialty travel underwear is a lot less, save to make sure that it's comfortable when stuck in a hard airline seat for twelve hours...so any lace should be in the front only...

Somehow I get the feeling that "mary" (or whatever HIS real name is) is just interested in women's underweare in general.

Anway, is it possible somebody could just post a composite list of all the recommended brands based on all the above comments regarding men's underware?

Back on January 10 Alan posted a web-site named coolclothingusa.com as a source of microfiber clothing.
Be careful about their dress shirts unless you love to iron. The shirts are listed as wrinkle resistant...NOT! These are probably the most wrinkle prone shirts I have ever seen. Also they felt like plastic, unlike my mirofiber polo shirts that feel more silky.

Buyer be ware on this one.

Magellan's currently has the Ex Officio men's briefs on sale for around $13.
Amazon.com also has the Ex Officio currently for about the same price, give or take a few pennies.

If you currently wear normal-guy cotton briefs, they don't weigh much to begin with, so there's not a real weight saving (nor much of a bulk-volume savings) in switching to something like the Ex Officio's.
However, the quick-dry advantage is the compelling deal-closer.

I did find that the Ex Officio 'sport' briefs were sized smaller than I'm used to. I'm always a M, but had to swap up for a L size in the Ex Officio's. YMMV, of course. I'm very happy with the quality.
