Break out the foil underwear - INVASION OF THE BODYSCANNERS

backscatter.jpgThe TSA’s new “backscatter” x-ray body scanners can see right through your clothes, but they wouldn’t dare ogle you:

“The machines are capable of showing passengers’ bodily parts, but TSA says that, due to privacy concerns, they will not. All of the machines will use software that will blur images of passengers, so screeners will see weapons but only fuzzy images of people’s bodies.” - so they said in USA Today

Most of us probably look better on “fuzzy”. The ACLU (who I don’t always admire) has called the technique a  “virtual strip search”.

Given the choice I'll take the virtual strip search over the real one. Also, if it stops just one person from getting something bad on the plane then I'm all for that too.

Only legit complaint I can see from the image is that the screen appears to be visible to everyone. They should have something just blocking the view from the general public like a simple cloth screen.

I'm not necessarily against it. It's just sad that it's come to this. Technology always has its costs. The technology (the affordable jetliner) that allows anyone to jump on a plane at anytime necessitates the invasive technology designed to keep wackos from using the jetliner as a weapon...
