OBOW goes light on the highway

My 66-mile round trip commute just got a lot lighter on the wallet thanks to my new/used Toyota Echo (41 mpg vs. 17 mpg). It has a nice sized trunk but don’t try to throw a big suitcase in the back “seat”. I believe the TB Western Flyer will suit it perfectly.

Justifiably, hybrids like the Prius and new models like the Smart have gotten a lot of press given the rice in gas prices, but buying a used compact like yours might be the most frugal choice.

I had an Echo (4-door sedan) 2-4 years ago, and it was great. It is also nice to be sitting a little higher in it than many other small cars (easy to get in and out of too). And fuel economy, yeah. If you don't need to move a whole football team, why drive as if you had to?

Congratulations on your car. I'm pleased to see more and more people purchasing vehicles that aren't behemoth in proportions. I'm a small car fan and have always hated SUVs--which was compounded by so many people wasting gasoline simply because they could.
It's nice to see that high gas prices have forced (the majority of) people in this country to start considering their fuel economy and public transportation.

I have a 2000 Echo bought new. I absolutely adore the car and plan to drive it till the bolts rust out! I get fabulous milage (49 on a recent long distance trip) and by moving the front seats as far up as they'll go and laying down the back seats, have frequently carried a 6' folding table. Viva ECHO!!
