Another opinion piece if favor of fees for carry-on luggage:
It might make sense to limit the size of the checked bags or to charge for additional checked baggage — or even charge people for carry-on luggage. Checked baggage is considered pretty safe, whereas carry-on luggage has to go through extra screenings. It makes more sense to charge for carry-on bags than checked baggage. - EnidNews.com

I don't think the airlines need any help finding ways to nickel & dime us. Maybe this is one of those times that EnidNews should keep its opinions to itself.
The summer of love it isn't. There's going to be conflict in this new environment of airline shrinkage and fuel price increase - between the airlines and passengers, and between passengers who travel light and follow the rules and those who carry the kitchen sink and have gotten used to breaking the rules.
Unless all carry-on items are eliminated, the cost of screening a handbag it no different from screening a standard rollaboard. While I have no problems with enforcing uniform an reasonable rules, the suggestion from EnidNews is pure drivel.
