King of Shaves is king

My journey with shaving oil began with Pacific Shaving’s excellent product. It gave a very good shave. After a couple of re-orders I heard of Shave Secret, a brand you can buy at Wal-Mart. Good, I thought, an oil for those who don’t want to order a $5 item online. Not so good though. It can’t hold a candle to Pacific or to my new number one, King of Shaves. It gives the best shave of the three without question. An OBOW reader recommended it and, just as he said, it’s available at CVS stores. At 100 shaves for 15ml/.5 fl oz., how much lighter can you get? And I just found that Gadling likes it too.

LONG LIVE THE KING

They also have that in a non-menthol version and in an anti-bacterial version with triclosan. The latter I just ordered. I also wanted to order some Kinexium shave oil which seems to be their top line product, so I could compare but it was out of stock. What I did see is that they had a new razor system with which they are trying to fight the big G. I ordered that, too, to try it out. I only use Gillette Sensor Excel blades but I find the cost of those too high already.

I am now experimenting with drying the blade after use, to see if I can get more shaves out of it. So far no conclusion. I usually get about ten shaves out of a blade. I am at five only on this new blade. When I'm finished trying the drying method, I will test the other method I read about. It consists of storing the blade in a bit of oil (olive, vegetal or mineral oil doesn't matter). This is supposed to prevent corrosion. I wonder whether it will make bacteria grow quicker, though.

As far as shaving with oil goes I have used two products thus far. The first is Hydroglide by Moore Unique. It has Aloe Vera, Propylene Glycol and water as ingredients. Not a great result. My GF used it on her legs but still prefers foam it seems.

The other product I used was pure jojoba oil and the result was wonderful. Both methods do clog the razor more than foam or shaving cream, though.

Has anybody got any experience with the drying or oil methods?

My local Wal-Mart used to carry King of Shaves and Shave Secret. I've tried them both, didn't notice much difference. But I like the clove smell of the Shave Secret a little better. Unfortunately, my local WM stopped stocking the King of Shaves.

Ahhhh... after reading all the above, I may have to break down and order the KoS Oil. But it was pricey - $8+ for .6 oz (for the Kinexium Oil)- so much so that I went with my standby, Avid Skinglider. I sure am curious now... Unfortunately, the KoS oil is not available locally.
