A toothbursh and a hacksaw?

“Another idea I’ve mentioned here before:  take a standard toothbrush and use a hacksaw to cut off 2-3″ of the handle.  It’ll still work fine, will weigh less, and you can put it in a Ziploc bag much more easily.”

Never let it be said that all the strange ones hang out at OBOW. Enjoy the Practical Hacks light travel primer here.

Um, or spend 99 cents on a travel size toothbrush at Target. Just sayin'.

Why stop there? If you cut off your toes, you could buy shorter, lighter shoes. LOL

Speaking of hacking things off.....I have a convertible bag that was truly uncomfortable worn as a backpack, so I hacked the straps off and made it quite a lot lighter (the straps were surprisingly heavy).

LizL, that is too funny.

I agree that there are some parallels between traveling light and backpacking. However, I don't think it is worth the effort to me to cut off the handle of a tooth brush or to repack lotion into a contact lenses case. Currently my wife tolerates my travel light jones, though I do have to endure jokes and remarks about how I am not gaining anything by cramming everything into a shoebox. I think that if I were to go to lengths such as refilling plastic tubes with Edge shaving cream, I would probably be tossed out of the window. Same with the perfume tip. When I do travel with perfumes, I simply bring the sample sizes they hand out at department stores, not throw away the original sample and then spray some other ones into the recycled vial. That seems to me to be a waste of five minutes better spent doing something fun. Then again, I am not determined to wear a particular perfume.

It's simpler for me to bring Lush's solid perfume, instead of going to the trouble of transferring my perfume. Since I only use my solid perfume for travel, it's still going strong.
