New eReaders from Onyx, 3 sizes
How many years (or months) until netbooks are made obsolete by eReaders? From iReaderReview:
“The key highlights of the Boox are -
- The specifications page lists 6″, 8″ and 9.7″ screens.
- The web browser uses WebKit customized for the eInk screen. Using WebKit is pretty impressive - both Safari and Chrome use it too.
- They have a pretty good looking folders system, and use thumbnails etc. well.
- Its a touch screen with a pen included and handwriting recognition.
- Support for Wi-Fi, CDMA, EVDO, and GSM is listed as optional.
- It supports a wide variety of formats including ePub, PDF, and Amazon’s own Mobipocket (.prc).
- There’s no keyboard and there’s an iPod scroll wheel type control on the front….” - more
And while we’re ebooking, 25 Kindle hacks from the same site.
And a trade pub says “more than a niche”

Only one question, will it be available outside the U.S.?
I own a Kindle 1, but was considering a Irex Iliad 2nd Edition. Now I see that the market is opening up to more 8" 16 gray-scale screen devices, so I might wait a month or so to see what really shakes out. If this Onyx has an 8" version, I would be VERY interested. The 6 " screen is a bit too small for me. I love it to read novels on, but to do much more, ie. newspapers, tech documents, legal briefs, etc., it is just too small. I also have a BIG problem with the DRM disallowing me to share my books with friends, as I can with a hard copy. So, for all companies considering a bigger, more feature-rich device than the Kindle, BRING IT ON!
