Pants up, beep-free

I certainly wish I’d had one of these in the last few weeks: the Beep Free Belt. The buckles look metallic but they’re not, the belts are real leather, and the prices are competitive. Alas, for one less hassle. You have to wonder if the screeners will think their equipment is malfunctioning when the buckle doesn’t set off the alarm.

I've been eyeing up the one sold on magellans.com - I spend more time watching my husband stripping off then dressing again at security than I do going through security.....lace-up shoes, belt, pocket items, jacket.
Magellans do a non-metallic reversible belt, brown and black. Cost about $34 and change.
Good idea though.

Yes but the Magellan belt is rather on the ugly side. This one looks much better and has more variations. Check out their website. The problem is always the buckle! Eagle Creek actually has a belt with money pocket and a nice buckle but it is not leather.

I emailed the company today to find out if they can do the Glove Leather model as a reversible model. I'd get one right away.

Why are these needed? The vast majority of metal belt buckles do not set off the metal detector (unless it's the large rodeo kind). I have several belts with metal buckles and have never had an issue with keeping them on through security.

I've been beeped with no more than a few coins so I always assumed a belt buckle was a sure thing. I was even chastised by a security guy last week for going through the metal detector with my passport in my pocket! Dallas or Paris - I don't remember which...

Going through Toronto and Heathrow security, the officers made everyone wearing belts (with metal attachments), take them off and put them in the trays with their shoes.
I don't wear belts too often but I do make sure I have the least amount of metal on me, that includes jewelry other than my wedding ring.
I've noticed a difference in detection machines between Toronto, London and Spain, some seem more sensitive than others.

This is great for metal-free work environments, though. We are moving to a new facility with biometric scanners that pick up pretty much anything, but I work in the office and have dealings with the upper level managers rather often. It's nice to know that I can still look professional with a belt that won't set off the biometric scanner.
