Happy Birthday Disney World

Believe it or not, Disney World turns 40 today.

On October 1, 1971, Disney World opened to the public for the first time. Rather than go into details about Disney World, instead, I’ll give you some Disney World trivia:

Epcot opened in 1983.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 1989.

Animal Kingdom in 1998.

Walt Disney did not live to see his dream come to life as he died five years before it opened. His brother Roy took over responsibility for the project.

Disney is located in Lake Buena Vista county. The county has elected officials and is run like any other county except for the fact that Disney owns all of it.

I watched the Epcot dome being built in late 1981.
I loved Disney and did most of it in two and a half days. We'd like to go down there in the future but there is so much more of it to see now!!!!

The complexity of planning ahead for a WDW trip rivals that of planning for a trip abroad. We hadn't been there in over a decade and decided to go last year- too much fun! If you don't go often, meticulous planning is absolutely necessary. Remember, themed restaurants requiring signing up 180 days in advance. Low tourist season isn't that low anymore even with a soft economy so, a 40th birthday celebration will be well attended. Great vacation destination for people with special needs, mobility issues and various dietary restrictions. One bag heading to WDW but, came back with two bags (souvenirs.)
