Daily Roundup--November 9, 2011

Au Revoir a “Christmas Carols” et bonjour a “rock n roll.”  Galleries Lafayette is ditching the recorded Christmas carols usually found in their holiday window displays for live rock n roll. What’s next? Rap at Printemps Haussmann? Mon Dieu.

Rick Steves is having a sale on everything in his store. Discounts  from 20-50% off. Runs through 12/12/11.

I was thinking of purchasing the Rick Steves Autobahn Rolling Bag. What do you think? Or is there a better wheeled backpack bag out there??

I have no actual hands-on knowledge of these bags but they are lighter and cheaper than the RS Autobahn:

Jansport Wheeled Superbreak

High Sierra Chaser

This one is a little higher in cost but lower in weight. It's also better made than the RS one:

Relative to Galleries Lafayette, just for interest, my one purchase there last September, my Arthur and Aston men's day bag.

Frank thinks that this size is too small. In fact, it would be just a bit better if it were half an inch taller, as I could not quite fit my laminated map showing all of the art museums in Paris inside it.

If you want to carry a map and it won't fit in your bag, then the bag is too small.(But let's face it, a 8.5" x 7.7" x 2.8" is kind of small.)

When I buy a bag, I think about what I want to carry and try to figure out if it will all fit. If it doesn't, then it's too small.

live rock n roll isn't that bad. people might have been bored of Christmas songs?

I have a Rick Steves bag that I am totally UN-impressed with. Thin fabric, small zippers, poor quality seams. I have used it twice and don't dare take use it for travel any longer. Ebags has some nearly identical in design but much better value (better quality, lower price). All IMHO.
