Easier than ever to lose six pounds

Forest nails it in the Forum — the iPhone and like devices have made it easier than ever to go anywhere and do anything with only a light bag or pack on the shoulder:

The iPhone has replaced so many things in my bag. I no longer take a camera, clock, computer, books, magazines, newspaper, movies, address book, datebook,or any of the assorted cords and ephemera associated with the electronics. I bet it has saved at least 6 pounds and maybe as much as 12 lbs.It is the most amazing tool I have ever used. Talk about muti function …. the holy grail of light travel.

And speaking of the iPhone, these things are cool:

This under-$10 sticker makes your iPhone into a lookalike of a $4000 Leica camera.

"Alex, what is what happens when you check your 6lb bag of luggage at the airport?" Add to the list G.P.S., MP3 player, Video camera. Once again, less is more.

I did a post on my blog about how I travel with, at max, three pieces of technology. The main focus of the post was about cord management, but I thought you might be interested in reading it.

I didn't list the GPS, or the video camera, because I never carried them. I still take the ipod. It serves as a backup for the address book in the phone and I can't fit 10,000 songs on my phone.

Since it now also support bluetooth keyboards and you can run powerpoint presentations from it, I think it has just become even better. If only it had a folder system...

One of the reasons that I went to an Android phone, specifically the Dell Streak, was the ability to have a device that could replace my laptop, at least in the short term. With the addition of a bluetooth keyboard, and a fairly large SD card (16gb) I can create, edit and review documents and spreeadsheets, check email, surf the web, and the actually organize things into a folder system. I also have a GPS device, a decent point and shoot camera, a music and movie player, an e book reader, and a satellite radio receiver. I am carrying less weight than my netbook alone, and still have the advantage of a multifunction device.
