Airport gets creative with safety video

(Warning: this is not a negative TSA story. All those foaming at the mouth ready to pounce about TSA bashing will be pleasantly surprised.)

The management of Glacier Park International Airport near Kalispell, Montana weren’t happy with the long security lines but weren’t about to tell TSA to work faster. Instead, they decided to make the time spent prior to the checkpoints a little more enjoyable.

The airport hired a local band to make their own version of the government roduced saftey video. Both versions are now shown on a continuous loop and have gotten great reviews. Here it is for your enjoyment. (Oh, make sure you watch it through to the end.)

In case you’re wondering, TSA has given thumbs up to the video.

McCarran airport in Las Vegas also plays a continuous video loop at the checkpoints with famous Las Vegas personalities and entertainers. It's actually pretty good.

Um, since when do you have to take a camera out of its case like a laptop? Sounds like an airport is making up it's own dumb rules again. The video is cute, but it again highlights how inconsistent the TSA is. They need to spend more time getting their act together and less time being "creative."

To be fair, the airport made the first part of the video--with the singing--more as a way to be entertaining. The more serious, spoken part is from TSA. And you'll notice that section says only larger, video cameras need to be removed.

What's funny is I've been to this tiny airport many times and have never stood in line for more than a few minutes, even a few days right after the Christmas Underwear Bomber incident. The smaller airports I've been to always seem to be better staffed than the larger ones.

I have to agree about smaller airports being better and quicker. Even though Love Field in Dallas is not small by any stretch of the imagination, it's small enough that I've never really had to wait in line for security. That's never happened to me at DFW International.

“While DFW Airport can appreciate the creativity and humor demonstrated by the filmmakers, the Airport does not condone their entry into a closed place of business after hours. The video did point out the need to better secure this restaurant, and that issue is being addressed immediately. Further, it’s important to note that security agents observed the two filmmakers at several points during the making of the video. Because the filmmakers were presenting no threat to themselves, to others or to flight safety, and were causing no damage, there was no imperative to curtail their activities. DFW Airport, together with its security partners, maintains a high level of security at all times, and at no time did the filmmakers’ activities present any level of danger or threat to flight safety. And by the way, they also picked up after themselves, including the restroom.”
