Daily Roundup--January 10. 2012

Remember the cupcake TSA confiscated in Las Vegas just before Christmas? Well, they’ve now officially responded as to the reason. What I really love is the last line: “The TSA points out that fliers are permitted to take cakes, pies and cupcakes through security checkpoints, but adds that such items may be subject to additional screening.” I guess it’s true; the real purpose of “enhanced” pat downs is to grope my cupcakes.

Admission fees will be waved this weekend througout the entire U.S. National Park System in honor of the 3 day Martin Luther King holiday weekend. And you know what free admission means?  Crowds.

FWIW I visited Zion and Bryce (both in IT) over Veterans Day Weekend and while busy, neither was what I would consider to be crowded. I'd likely have a different tale to tell had I visited over Memorial or Labor Day weekends.

In defence of TSA I have to admit that the item seized did not look like a cupcake to me and is somewhat understandable given it was in a sealed glass jar.
