Airline To Offer Kid Free Quiet Zone

If it only flew where I needed to go.

Air Asia, the Malaysian based discount carrier, says it will start offering a child-free quiet zone in economy class.

This section will be separated from the rest of coach not just by a curtain but by a row of lavatories and a galley. The airline realizes that at times some travelers just want quiet to make their journey more pleasant.

The seats will cost extra but no more than any other specially requested seat.

How many here would be willing to pay a little extra if this was offered on flights you took? I would.

Noisy and often poorly controlled children were a problem on our recent seven day cruise, but we have encountered this issue on flights as well over the years. I can assure that not only I but surely my WIFE would appreciate an airline offering this option.

Our son is an angel on the plane. And we've had him woken up to crying on two separate intercontinental flights by loud groups of heavily intoxicated adults on spring break and summer tours. It's not just the kids that are annoying. A quiet area for everyone on the plane would be a big plus.

Yes, it goes both ways. We've taken our 1 and 2 years olds on transpacific flights in business class (on points). No one with children wants to sit next to, or hear, a grumpy adult about the fact that children are close by. I've had more 'loud and chatty' adults on flights than loud children. When travelling with the kids, we try to upgrade seats and sit close to the lavatory. Whether with children or not, agree that a quite area is a nice idea. MAS is doing it as well.

Most parents try very hard to keep their kids behaving well on flights. But not all. And an out of control young child or an ill/uncomfortable baby can make a very large disturbance zone.

On long flights, I put in earplugs once the plane reaches cruising altitude. But those do nothing to protect me from chair kickers (usually kids), stink bombs (sometimes kids), or space hogs/snugglers (rarely kids).

I'm a huge fan of quiet zones on metro rail lines and Amtrak because I dislike listening to people talk on cell phones. If cell usage becomes common on airplanes, you can bet I'll pay more to sit in a quiet zone.

Oh, how I would LOVE this! I've been very lucky in the past when it comes to disruptive passengers (childrend OR adults) but I would take advantage of this for a red-eye.
