I've been watching this conversation with lots of interest. I have two bags I use a lot, both Tom Bihns. I have a Western Flyer that I use for very short trips and an Aeronaut. The Aeronaut is the best travel bag I have EVER used. I've gone for as long as two weeks out of it, I've shlepped it with both the backpack straps and the Absolute Strap (agree with you Frank). On my last trip (a short one) I needed to dress for two two business meetings and ringing the NASDAQ closing bell. It was a rainy weekend. I really hate to wear my sport coat on the plane as in coach as I don't want it destroyed in the crowded overhead. So I was able to get all my regular stuff PLUS my sport coat PLUS my Burberry trench coat into that bag! Just imagine what you can put in there without that nonsense! The configuration of compartments is extremely versatile, I have used it many ways. I have also NEVER been asked to gate-check it on even smaller commuter flights, and it has yet to not fit into even a small overhead, even when very full (since there is no frame, no wheels, etc.).
