- My wife and I went to Hawaii on our honeymoon with 7 bags (for a 5 day trip) we had multiple outfits for each day. All carefully picked out to match by my new bride.

- My wife is going to Europe on business for her company and her traveling companion says, "I'm not carrying any of your bags", resulting in her going on a 10 day trip with one 21 inch rolling bag. She says she does not want to do that again because she felt limited in her outfits.

- I start traveling to overseas jobs a few weeks at a time. My wife and infant daughter come along with multiple large checked suitcases.

- I get a big contract job overseas, take 2 suitcases and a laptop bag, to live there.

- Still living overseas but have reduced traveling to 1 suitcase and laptop bag

- Start to get the one bag itch, reduce my traveling volume to one carry-on and one laptop bag

- We have 2 kids and spent last summer (12 weeks) in Greece and Romania with 1 bag each.

- fully in the one-bag carry-on camp. Sold (or donated) all large bags. Traveled weekly with on Redoxx Avaitor medium duffel as my primary bag and a laptop sleeve. Carry-on every time, never checked one bag during that time.

- have a project within driving distance of my house, use one laptop sleeve, sleep at home and use my own closet (which is way too big for my small selection of clothes).

I have tried many different bags and have come to the conclusion that a simple light / strong bag with handles is all that I need. I've spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on bags over the years but I keep coming back to the simple bags.

Tip: If you have a bag that you love but it is not a backpack style, just attach two shoulder straps and carry it like a backpack.
