Paula answers the questions “Is traveling light easier and is it really just for younger people?”
‘We are in our 50s, comfort has become the main priority for us when travelling, it gives us great peace of mind knowing our bags won’t be ‘lost’ and we never have to hang around airports any longer than necessary. It opens up the choice of public transport too, now we can travel in rush hour without getting in the way of commuters. We can manage lots of stairs without any thought to hefting heavy cases and breaking our arms in the process.’ - from the OBOW Forum

I'm in my sixties and I absolutely agree. Travelling light makes it possible to keep traveling enjoyably as you get older. All the mistakes I made when I was younger are paying off now that I know who I am and what I really need on the road. It took me awhile to work out my personal minimal travel system but it was worth it.
My only regret from my younger travelling years is that I didn't wise up sooner!
I can't believe how heavy some of my cases were and that on a couple of occasions I actually hurt myself trying to tackle stairs at train stations. When I think about it now, those trips were marred by me bogged down by weighty bags, so silly.
As you said Joelle, getting older comes with the knowledge of knowing who you are and what you really need, that in itself is a liberating factor not just for travelling light but in every day life as well. Now at airports, | look at the those who are pushing overloaded luggage carts to check in (while I breeze through with my online check-in print-out) and just quietly laugh to myself......one day their lightbulbs will switch on too!
