More lightweights with wheels

Walkin Bags are a new lgihtweight alternative if you simply must have wheels. Their website is not so intuitive but bounce around for a while and you’ll get the picture. They have a very simple roller that weighs only four pounds and a seven-pounder with a built-in folding seat.

No comments over several days. Seems these things aren't so exciting. I agree. Seat is not needed in my eyes. I never had the case where there were no seats. If ever there were no seats at my gate the gate across had seats.

I also don't really get what the curved handle is good for. I can just as well or better lean on a straight handle. It is certainly supposed to fulfill an ergonomic function but I don't get it.

The design or packing features don't look particularly exciting, either.

They are lightweight, though. At least something.

Reisenthel, www.reisenthel.com, is an award winning German green company that has long made lightweight bags that are far better designed and constructed, and much less expensive than these.

I use their Trolley Bag, less than $30, for grocery shopping and have often thought of taking it along as a carryon. It weighs about a pound, the wheels fold flat behind matching velcroed bottom flaps when not in use, and the entire bag collapses and zips up to the size of a toilletries kit. The top opening has a strap but is not zipped, which could be fixed by a luggage repair shop.

I have my eye on their AirBelTBag, which is entirely recycled from aircraft seatbelts and cabin materials, and has become an international design icon. It's almost indestructable and is available in three sizes. The largst size makes a good computer bag or small carryon, and the smaller sizes are good as unisex daybags or women's handbags. They are priced at around $100.

Many of the bags in the Reisenthel line are available at http://www.reusablebags.com/ . The AirbeltBag is not available on that site but you can go to Amazon or google it to find US dealers.
