Travel gift wish

With Black Friday just days away, and the holiday season upon us, I thought it might be fun to talk about travel gifts.

Keeping in mind the principles of “one bag travel,” if there was one item you’d like that would make your travels easier or lighter, what would it be?

a Red Oxx small aviator bag with D rings on the ends.

Or a teleporter from Star Trek.

Would a Vulcan have to touch anything but your head to search you?

a Red Oxx Air Boss bag!

I would like a plastic button or pin of the One Bag, One World logo so when I wear it the airport security people and the flight crews would know "Here's a stud that knows what he's doing" .

I would pay up to five bucks for such a pin.

A Kindle. I always take way too many books.

Monte, I can make those - might no be non-metallic those. Might guarantee you a pat-down from Big Melvin.

Has to be nonmetalic, and Melvina is her name.

For Red Oxx to make a scaled down version of the Air Boss or SkyTrain with dimensions similar to the TB Western Flyer.

I second the teleporter, wouldn't need to take a bag, just pop home occasionally to change clothes!

Mary Poppins' magic carpet bag also comes to mind (if Scotty runs out of Dilithium Crystals and can't run the teleporter)!! ;-)

I've got bags aplenty, can't think of anything 'real' right now.

A search is predicated on the idea that someone would use a weapon to hijack the plane and take it somewhere else, maybe to be used as the weapon.

If there were transporters, there would be no need to search for weapons, just the stuff that is illegal at the destination.

seriously...

I wish that everyone could have an ipad.

It changes the way that you think about the internet and information.

I'd take one of those lapel pins too!

To receive for myself:
- a folding Knirps umbrella, plus a regular stick one for home. (Haven't decided on the style yet, but will probably choose black as the colour. Maybe I'll be a rebal and get red in the folding version! As usual, a gift fmr me to me or else I won't get it under the tree.)

- Hermès cashmere silk shawl for the plane instead of those airline supplied blankets (these shawls are very warm, look elegant, folds into next to nothing!) Can never have too many!

- a small magical evening bag like the character Hermione Granger carries in the book "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". This bag carries an entire library, multiple changes of clothing for three people including outer wear, medications, and a huge selection of camping gear and probably a kitchen sink too.

For the family:
- Tom Bihn Western Flyer or Tri-Star for all. (How else to get them to pack light? Start with a bag and go from there.)

- Tilley travel socks

- Skross power adapters

- mini lantern light - only $6!

- OBOW lapel pins for all!

Well I kinda went over the "one item" suggestion. Well, Santa may still read it!

Andy, I'll know a little more about the iPad in a couple of months. My wife is part of an academic team that just won a &75k grant for a technology-for-teachers pilot. She'll get an iPad with 3G service and a bluetooth keyboard. Maybe my wish is that she lets me borrow it now and again. I should be thankful anyway -- she's the reason I have a Touch.

I already bought them:

* A Lenmar PPUClip

* A small ultra-SIL hanging toilet kit (2.8 oz)
http://www.ems.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4012894

I would also suggest:
* 4 USB travel charger:

Portable day pack:

Flex-o-line travel clothesline, Inflatable hangers, Op/Tech SOS shoulder strap, Go-Toobs, Ultra-light pack towel, packing cubes, ultra light stuff sacks,

Most of these are pretty small, so would be fun stocking stuffers.

My wish is that all gear be made by adults (not children) under decent conditions--where the workers are paid a fair wage, paid overtime and aren't abused.

I agree with the smaller AirBoss, something sized just right for 2-3 day trips. I'd like to get a portable bluetooth keyboard. I makes the prospect of no laptop travel that wuch easier to contemplate when I can type emails and trip notes orn a real keyboard.

For those looking for a "smaller" Air Boss, what about the Tom Bihn Tri-Star or Western Flyer. The latter can be ordered without backpack straps.

Esther:
Then you'll want products made in the USA.

An iPad would be great but I think that I'll start with the iPhone. I need to update my mobile phone anway and nothing appeals to me at the moment BUT the iPhone 4. At this point I'd feel silly with BOTH. I don't need EITHER, really but I do rely on my mobile for just about everything (email, internet, camera) but actual phone calls LOL

I'd love to have the type of travel wardrobe that would pack up small so I could use nothing more than a small backpack. And by small backpack I mean just that, not something with the dimensions of my eBags Weekender.
