Travel crime

Gadling travel writer Justin Delaney recently had a bucket load of feces dumped on his head in Ecuador as part of a plot to rob him of his camera. It worked.

Realizing that if a seasoned travel writer could become victim to such a “dastardly deed,” why not write an article warning all travelers of the top 10 types of travel theft (and how to be safe.)

The mustard / ketchup scenario happened in Toronto International years ago. Fortunately the police cottoned on to it quite quickly and managed to catch the thieves, that, along with the baggage handler luggage theft ring that was in action around the same time.

Having a bucket of sh*t thrown over you......well.......that is just too horribly disgusting for words!

Wow. That feces dump would be the worst thing ever. Thanks for the link- some of this was new information and I feel a little better prepared for our upcoming Italy trip. I've passed the article on to my travel companions. During our last trip to Spain, we came up with a code word to alert our group of an imminent threat - it was the name "Stuart"... (after a MadTV character if I recall). My husband caught a pick pocket in the act on a train in Barcelona which has inspired us all to compete to catch them. It's more fun if you go in expecting it and make a sport of it than going in fearful of it.
d;)
